Hasura 2020: The next phase of our journey
We just announced our fundraise (TechCrunch, BusinessWire) and I thought I’d take this opportunity to put together some notes on what 2020 has in store for Hasura.
Our entire team is super excited with what we’ve been able to achieve in the last few months. Hasura started as something we built ourselves to ease data access and accelerate development. Over time, our user base picked Hasura up and built a passionate, positive and extremely helpful community around Hasura, and that has become the bedrock on which Hasura has matured.
We’ve seen the Hasura GraphQL engine get used to build all kinds of applications including, mission critical & tier-1 applications, from fast growing startups to Fortune 100 users. We’ve seen how Hasura has helped fill a key gap in modern application and cloud-native development by handling the plumbing around data-access and eventing that seemed absent in today’s fast-moving app landscape. Most importantly, Hasura delivers this value over a GraphQL API. GraphQL is key to Hasura’s offering, since GraphQL puts the consumers of data and APIs front and center. And these consumers are most often the developers who are responsible for building applications & services that will ultimately deliver value to the business (aka ship product!).
With this fundraise, with our new partners (Sandeep at Vertex Ventures US, SAP.iO Fund) and angels (including James, founder Firebase & Amod ex-CTO Flipkart, Founder Udaan), we aim to do 4 things:
- Serve the needs of our production and enterprise users better than ever before
- Double down on the GraphQL, security and Postgres features that the Hasura community wants and deliver them faster than ever before
- Bring the Hasura experience to other databases beyond the Postgres ecosystem and work with database vendors
- Invest in our users and the Hasura community, who’ve helped make Hasura what it is today
If you’re using Postgres (or a Postgres flavour) at work today and are thinking about GraphQL to accelerate developer productivity, please do reach out and talk to us! And of course, if you’re using Hasura already in your team/org, I’d love to hear about what you’ve been building and welcome any input you have for us!
